Pixel series and possibly other phones have a function called “extra dimming” in Swedish which lowers the brightness beyond the regular minimum level. Getting even lower brightness is mostly only useful in completely dark rooms and above all when reading in bed.
Android 15 looks to offer a further development of the function. According to the statement, the new setting will be among the usual screen settings instead of in the accessibility category.
Another difference is that the new “extra dim” is expected to become an optional part of Android’s regular custom brightness. In other words; instead of “extra dimming” being a function that is switched on and off when needed, the automatic brightness should be able to reduce the level extra low in completely dark rooms.
The source Mishaal Rahman points out that the setting is not live in Android 15 yet and that it is therefore not completely nailed down how the finesse will actually work.
