Many people try different schemes with their diet and going on a diet in different forms. However, timed diets are seen by a new study conducted by researcher Kevin Hall at the US federal medical authority National Institutes of Health, writes Dagens PS.

Whether you lose the pounds by reducing your calorie intake and increasing your exercise, or if you have weight loss surgery or take medication, there comes a day when the numbers on the scale stop ticking down. Then you have reached your so-called weight plateau. The normal time period to reach the plateau, without the latter two aids, is around a year, according to the study.

Diet increases appetite

The body regulates weight by trying to maintain a balance between the calories we eat and the calories we burn. When we consume or reduce calories and begin to burn our stored energy, the appetite is activated to tell us to eat more.

Kevin Hall’s study shows that the more weight a person loses, the stronger the appetite, which counteracts the results for many. For most of the participants in the study, the appetite returned after about twelve months after the calorie intake had been cut significantly. Then it became noticeable to the participants that their bodies were urging them to eat more. It was a feeling that was not there at the beginning of the diets when the calories were constantly reduced.

The most important point of the new study is not to put faith and rely on different kinds of diets, writes CNN Health.

– The people still experience an increased appetite, the more weight they lose, says Kevin Hall.
