HMD reveals the first mobile collection under its own name

--

You may know Human Mobile Devices (HMD) as the Finnish company that makes smartphones under the Nokia name. For example, models like the Nokia X30 are manufactured by HMD.

A few months ago, however, rumors began to circulate that HMD would launch smartphones under its own name, and that Nokia phones would therefore disappear from the market. HMD had to bury that reputation and during the spring the company has both helped launch a ‘Barbie’ flip mobile as well as a ditto of the kind called ‘The Boring Phone’ in collaboration with Heineken.

But now the promised HMD mobiles are finally coming. And there are three models in question, namely HMD Pulse Pro, HMD Pulse Plus and HMD Pulse.

Common to all three is that they should be easy to repair, so that the user can easily replace a broken screen, an old battery or a bent charging port with the help of an iFixit repair kit, which is purchased separately.

We have our finger on the pulse and are very aware of consumer needs and the trends that arise in the market. Repair is a cornerstone for us and an important new chapter for smartphone innovation. We will rethink the normal with a whole new era of smartphones that unite sophistication with substance,” says Lars Silbarbauer, CMO of Human Mobile Device, in a press release.

Specifications

The HMD Pulse Pro has a 6.56″ screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1,612 x 720 pixels. Under the shell you will find a Unisoc T606 processor, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of built-in storage space, which can be expanded via microSD card.

The mobile also has a 50 Mp wide-angle camera, a 2 Mp depth camera and a 50 Mp front camera. The battery is 5,000 mAh, while the operating system is Android 14, which will be updated twice, according to HMD.

HMD Pulse Plus and HMD Pulse both have the same processor and screen type as the Pulse Pro, and the Pulse Plus has the same configuration and primary camera as the Pro model, but has to settle for an 8 Mp front camera, while the HMD Pulse has a 13 Mp camera on the back and 8 Mp selfie camera. Additionally, the HMD Pulse only offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage.

All three mobiles will receive security updates once a quarter for three years.

Price and availability

All three models are available now. The HMD Pulse Pro costs SEK 2,299 for the aforementioned configuration with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of built-in storage space.

The HMD Pulse Plus costs SEK 1,990 for a similar configuration, while the cheapest model, the HMD Pulse, costs SEK 1,790 for the configuration with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of built-in storage space.

As mentioned, repair kits must be purchased separately and are available from iFixit from 49 EUR.
