Save your eyes and battery
New feature can let users force a dark theme even if it doesn’t exist.
There are many people who appreciate using dark mode on their Android devices, among other things because it is more gentle on both the eyes and the battery than light mode. The dark mode function was introduced with Android 10, but has the disadvantage that apps and functions need two color schemes to offer the function – one light and one dark.
That requirement may disappear in Android 15, so test versions of the operating system have a hidden setting whose function is to swap colors and thus force a dark theme even if it is not provided by the developer. The setting called “make all apps dark” currently doesn’t work as well with a dedicated dark theme, but as the option isn’t expected to launch until Android 15 at the earliest, it may undergo a series of improvements before the crisp version is released.
