Gaming company Blizzard Entertainment has announced that, after careful consideration, they have decided to cancel this year’s edition of the company’s gaming convention Blizzcon. Blizzcon has been held annually since 2005, with a handful of years being canceled, especially during the pandemic years.

Blizzard Entertainment has used the event to present its new games, and expansions to already launched titles. During last year’s Blizzcon, the company presented them three next the expansions to the massive online role-playing game World of Warcraft, as well as the upcoming Vessel of Hatred expansion to Diablo 4.

The company announces that it will present its games at a number of other events throughout the year, including Gamescom in Germany in August. The matches in the world championships in the game Overwatch that are also usually held at Blizzcon will also be moved to other events, including Dreamhack Stockholm.

It remains to be seen if Blizzcon returns next year, or if Blizzard, under Microsoft’s auspices, has now decided to shut down the gaming convention altogether.
