The spring and summer of 2018 were the warmest in modern times in all of Scandinavia. Forests burned and many farmers went to their knees as harvests took a beating and animals were forced to be slaughtered.

The large-scale weather systems that create the conditions for the summer’s weather can be compared to those of five years ago, as Expressen previously reported.

The summer of 2023 could therefore be as hot as 2018.

– It’s getting hotter and hotter. It looks like it will be extremely dry in August, TV4 meteorologist Madeleine Westin previously said in “Nyhetsmorgon”.

LRF’s recreates drought group

The situation is already pressing for Swedish farmers in several Swedish counties, reports Sveriges Radio’s “Ekot”. In Blekinge, LRF has started the so-called “drought group” from 2018 to be able to support farmers both psychologically and financially, reports “Ekot”.

Centrally, the organization is also preparing to launch a crisis group ready to have meetings every morning to monitor the situation for food production and agriculture – day by day.

– Will it rain – or won’t it? How have the last day’s talks with the authorities and the government gone? We need to follow this on a 24-hour basis, says Markus Hoffman to Sveriges Radio.
