The announcement comes after the Senate in the US Congress on the night of Wednesday, Swedish time, as expected said yes to a support package for Ukraine of close to 61 billion dollars (approximately 57 billion euros), something that Kiev has been waiting for since last fall.
Ukraine has raised the alarm about an arms deficit that complicates the fight with Russia, and has repeatedly expressed the need to get the support of the United States. Ukraine has warned of a difficult situation on the front line, where Russia is on the offensive.
Stopped for months
“Regardless of what anyone says, we are getting the support we need to continue to protect lives from Russian attacks.”
This weekend, the US House of Representatives voted through the aid package, after it was stalled for months due to opposition from Republicans.
In total, the support package, which also includes Israel, Gaza and Taiwan, is worth just over 95 billion dollars, equivalent to almost 89 billion euros.
“Without delay”
– It provides necessary support to America’s partners so that they can defend themselves against threats to their sovereignty and to the lives and freedoms of their citizens, says Biden.
Israel receives military support in the package and Gaza receives humanitarian support. The president demands that the humanitarian aid going to Gaza be immediately allowed into the strip of land.
– Israel must ensure that all this support reaches the Palestinians in Gaza without delay, he says.
Part of what Biden signed is also about the tech giant Tiktok, which must now either cut ties to China, or be thrown out of the American market.
