According to the news agency AFP, the wings of the mill that is on the building must have fallen to the ground during the night of Thursday for an unknown reason.
In pictures from the Montmartre district, the huge steel structure is squatted on the ground in front of the nightclub.
In the event, the wings dragged the three letters of the Moulin Rouge sign down onto the street below, according to France’s Le Figaro.
The Moulin Rouge first opened in 1889 and is the world’s most famous cabaret scene.

The accident must have occurred shortly before 02:00 on Thursday night after the cabaret had closed for the evening. The cause of the fall is unclear.
According to the local rescue service, no one has been injured. There is also no risk of the entire building collapsing.
“This is the first time an accident of this type has occurred since it was founded on October 6, 1889,” a Moulin Rouge spokesperson said in a statement to AFP.
Pictures from the scene show the work of cleaning the collapsed wings away from the street.
