Ukraine’s agriculture minister has offered to resign after being named as a suspect in a corruption investigation.
Earlier this week, investigators accused Mykola Solsky of illegally seizing land when he was the head of a large agricultural company and a member of parliament.
The country’s anti-corruption agency Nabu stated on Tuesday that Solsky led a group that took control of state land in the north-eastern county of Sumy worth close to SEK 80 million between 2017 and 2021.
“I have signed a resignation letter. . . I think it’s the right step,” Solskij announces on Telegram.
He says the agreements were linked to a “dispute” and that the land was handed over “in accordance with the law”.
Ukraine’s parliament must approve his request.
