India is rocked by yet another brutal rape case.
On Saturday, a 22-year-old man was arrested in Lakhimpur in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on suspicion of holding a 17-year-old girl prisoner for three days.
In the meantime, he allegedly raped and abused her repeatedly, writes The Times of India. The man is also said to have written his name with a red-hot iron on both of the girl’s cheeks.
According to the newspaper’s information, the man wanted to marry the girl, who refused. Then he allegedly kidnapped her.
In recent years, India has been rocked by a series of gruesome rape cases, including fatal gang rapes. Several of the cases have led to widespread street protests among mainly Indian women.
