Facebook bug allegedly sends out friend requests automatically

Panic began to spread on social media on Friday afternoon.

More and more users started to claim the same thing:

A bug in the Facebook app means that a friend request is automatically sent if you access a profile belonging to someone you are not already friends with.

That is, without actively pressing the “Add friend” button, which can make it difficult if you have a habit of stalking or snooping on someone secretly.

Several testify that a request is sent automatically – without you pressing the button.

“This has happened to me several times today. Absolutely horrible,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“The fact that my abusive ex now thought it was a good idea to try to add me on Facebook is quite off-putting,” writes another, after which someone informs that it may be the bug.

Several readers have also contacted Expressen and testify to the same thing.

“Friend requests from strange men”

Expressen has obtained screen recordings where you can see when the Facebook app seemingly automatically adds someone as a friend when the profile page is loaded.

The bug seems to affect both iPhone and Android phones.

More and more are testifying to strange situations as a result of the alleged bug.

“I changed my profile picture on Facebook to a pretty good picture and suddenly I got 586588 friend requests from strange men. Does that mean I’ve been ugly all this time up until now?!” writes one person jokingly on Twitter.

Another person notes:

“Yes, I’ve tested this with a couple of friends, whom I removed, and then went to their page and a friend request was automatically sent when I scrolled”.

Neither Facebook, nor the parent company Meta, has so far confirmed the bug, nor is it registered on the platform’s list of ongoing bugs.

However, panicked posts continue to pour into social media.
