Without measures, Helsingborg’s hospital looks set to lose SEK 450 million this year. This has led to the hospital board so far using two financial action plans with the aim of reducing costs by SEK 200 million and SEK 150 million, respectively. So there is 100 million left.

And they are up for decision on Wednesday. The decision document states that personnel costs must be reduced »without employment termination, notice or negative impact on availability to the extent possible and with special consideration for patient safety«.

This is to be done by »certain jobs not being replaced in the event of layoffs and retirements«. The decisions are proposed to be made by business and department heads in consultation with the head of administration.

Through the measures, staffing costs are to be reduced by SEK 62 million: SEK 42 million in regular personnel costs, plus costs for hourly employees and overtime with another SEK 10 million each. Other items to reach the 100 million kroner concern, among other things, purchasing and service management.

The two previous action plans of 200 million kroner and 150 million kroner, respectively, have dealt, among other things, with savings regarding overtime, medicines, unnecessary laboratory tests and care choices.

The documents before the decision are available on Region Skåne’s website.
