A New York court overturns the rape conviction against Harvey Weinstein, US media reports.

The court demands that the trial be retrialed.

Rape verdict against Harvey Weinstein72, is torn up by a court in New York, writes international media.

The court demands that the trial be retrialed.

The sentence was appealed in an appeals court in New York in February this year. Weinstein’s lawyer argued that the film producer did not receive a fair trial in connection with when the metoo movement spread in the fall of 2017.

According to lawyer Arthur Aidala’s statement, it was not the evidence that was examined but Weinstein’s character.

– It’s about prejudices. They want to show that he is a “bad guy”, said the lawyer at the time.

The lawyer turns against three female witnesses heard in court, although the allegations were not part of the prosecution. Something that influenced the jury in a particular direction, stated the lawyer Aidala.

The case of Harvey Weinstein was the starting point for the metoo movement that spread all over the world.

The film producer was sentenced in 2020 to 23 years in prison for sexual assault and rape.

The first allegations of sexual assault and rape against Weinstein came in 2017. After that, more than 70 women came forward and accused the film producer of sexual harassment, molestation and rape.

The movie mogul was also sentenced to 16 years in prison in a Los Angeles court in 2022 for the rape and assault of a woman.

This means that Weinstein will not be released regardless of what decision the District Attorney Alvin Bragg makes regarding whether the trial should be retried or not.
