Congratulations! How does it feel?
It feels very fun and honorable. I have never received an award for my writing before, and I am very happy that this is the first.

What is your relationship to Fridegård?
I read him in junior high school, and have started reading about him now. I find the books about the land of the wood gods particularly exciting, trying to capture such a distant time in our history and bring it to life.

Do you see any similarities between your and Fridegård’s writing?
I see strong parallels in the desire to tell about history through the eyes of a marginalized group. And to write about history and complex events in an accessible and engaging way.

Do you have any tips for young people who want to write?
Read! Find lyrics you like and plow through them. And find texts you don’t understand and try to find an entrance in them.

What made you start writing?
I particularly remember a lesson in middle school when we were allowed to write freely based on a painting, when the text just started flowing out of me. It was as if that joy awakened the desire to write in me.

Would you like to tell me what you’re typing on right now?
Right now I’m finishing writing the second part of the Rinkeby suite, which takes place in the 80s and will be published this autumn. It is a series of novels that follow some people in Rinkeby from 1971 until today.

The Jan Fridegård Prize is awarded at Biskops Arnö on 14 June. Do you want to participate in the award ceremony? Keep an eye on the event calendar for more information about the event.
