For nearly a year, there have been tours around Limhamn’s preschool where the city of Malmö has terminated the lease with the consequence that perhaps the area’s most popular preschool is forced to close due to the fact that there are no premises for preschool activities in the area.

There is thus a pre-school crisis in Limhamn where over 300 places are missing and that Malmö in this situation chooses to kill the pre-school is a completely incomprehensible decision. Malmö is getting rid of an external tenant that provides rental income to the city in a precarious situation when continued operation would solve 30 percent of the space shortage.

How is this justifiable? How is this compatible with 11:1 of the Municipal Act that the municipality must have good financial management? How can Malmö rely on an inspection that an external inspection has judged to be non-serious?

Various municipal politicians have trumpeted, among other things, that “it is not the responsibility of the city of Malmö to arrange premises for a private actor”. However, this is contradicted by public documents that can be accessed thanks to the principle of public disclosure. Where Malmö has either promised premises for the preschool, only to later withdraw them, or frivolously offered significantly less premises. Imagine you had a restaurant with 200 seats but offered a hot dog stand as an alternative – is this serious?

In addition, this circus shows the fundamental problem with detailed planning. There are premises, but the area must be planned in detail for pre-school activities. And who is in that power? Of course – Malmö city. Malmö is thus prosecutor, judge and executioner.

I would advise everyone with a rental contract with Malmö not to trust any promises or statements, but to take everything to the rental board. Then maybe you can avoid meeting the same fate as Limhamn’s preschool.

So entrepreneurs, take care because you live in God’s grace, sorry, I mean the city of Malmö.
