The attack on a political meeting in Gubbängen on Wednesday evening has generated strong political reactions. When SD leader Jimmie Åkesson expressed that all types of political violence must be pushed back “regardless of whether it is left-wing or right-wing extremism”, there were many reactions. Expressen’s culture editor Anna Hellgren writes that Åkesson takes the opportunity to “turn the spotlight on himself”. This led Richard Jomshof (SD), chairman of the justice committee, to call Hellgren a “disgusting little person” in a post on X.

Why do you choose those words?

– I am tired of people trivializing and trying to make politics out of what happened yesterday. It is quite clear that all normally sane people think that what happened was terrible. There are so many examples of when we have been exposed to a wide range of different acts of violence, which I also give examples of. And then they try to make it so that we are some kind of scapegoat. I’m so tired of it, says Jomshof.

He states that he takes the debate “very personally”.

– Journalists who write such disgusting articles must also be prepared for strong counterstabbing.

Anna Hellgren writes in a text message to DN that “it is of course conspicuous that the chairman of the justice committee makes character judgments about journalists.”

“On the other hand, it’s not the first time Sweden Democrats and other right-wing radicals portray individual journalists or dissenters as enemies,” continues Hellgren.
