The Danish delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine is approaching. This is what Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) says during a visit to Hägglund’s factory in Örnsköldsvik together with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).
– We are getting close to it, says Frederiksen in response to TT’s question about when the deliveries can start.
The promise of Danish fighter jets to Ukraine was made last summer. But it has been delayed. Where Denmark stands today, Frederiksen does not want to go into detail for security reasons, but previously it has been said that the aim is to get the plan out this summer.
Sweden is part of what has been called the F-16 coalition with other NATO countries. But for Sweden, in that case it would have been about sending the Gripen – but no promises have been made to Ukraine about that.
Where does the government stand today regarding the Gripen?
– We are fully involved in the coalition and discuss with others how we can make the most of our air force resources. It is both about aircraft, but can also be about other parts of an overall increase in capacity for Ukraine. There we continue to participate in those discussions.
During the visit, Kristersson and Frederiksen also received a display of combat vehicles 90, or CV90 as it is called internationally, and of which Ukraine has received a large number in military support from Sweden.
