Anders “Aje” Philipson, 80, is the son of the “car king” Gunnar V. Philipson, who founded the import company Philipson Bil. The interest in cars was inherited, and over the years Aje Philipson has built up his own solid collection.

But now part of it has gone under the hammer.

– It’s a bit sad, I’ve owned many for 50 years. But you can’t see it that way, you have the right to make an exit at some point too, the businessman and royal friend told Expressen in April, after it became known that he would get rid of part of his unique car collection.

Ferrari auction in Italy

A total of 14 of the cars were auctioned under the name “The Aurora collection” in Villa Erba next to Lake Como in Italy on Saturday evening.

Twelve Ferrari cars, two Mercedes-Benz.

The auction

■ Once every two years, the car auction house RM Sotheby’s holds its exclusive Villa Erba auction in Villa Erba, which is a 19th-century villa in Cernobbio on the western shore of Lake Como in Italy.

■ The auction is described by RM Sotheby’s as “a pinnacle of taste and exclusivity” where some of the world’s most significant vehicles are presented.

■ A total of 56 cars were included in the auction which took place on Saturday 20 May.

■ Aje Philipson’s collection was called “The Aurora collection” and consisted of twelve Ferrari cars and two Mercedes.

– This is without a doubt one of the finest one-owner collections in Europe to come onto the public market, Anders Bilidt, car specialist for Scandinavia at RM Sotheby’s, told Carup in April.

Before the auction, RM Sotheby’s had calculated a total value of approximately SEK 340 million, according to Dagens industri.

The price: Over 25 million euros

Anders Bilidt has not calculated the definitive price for the cars yet, but when Expressen reaches him shortly after the auctions end, he says that it is at least 25 million euros when, in addition to the strike price, you also include the sales commission.

This corresponds to approximately SEK 287 million.

– It went well. We had done some marketing and had people from the US, all of Europe, England, everywhere, says Anders Bilidt.

According to him, there were some cars that went really well and surprised, for example two Ferrari 550 and a Ferrari SA Aperta from 2011, while others did not quite come up to the expected price.

– But as a whole, the collection lived up to our expectations, so it was a good evening.

– I have spoken to Philipson and he is satisfied with the result.

Most expensive Ferrari

The most expensive was, as expected, a Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta by Scaglietti from 1961. It was sold for the equivalent of approximately SEK 75.6 million.

Anders Bilidt cannot provide any details but says that several of the cars were sold to buyers in Denmark and Sweden.

– As a car enthusiast, I can safely say that I am satisfied that several cars will be in Scandinavia.

Aje Philipson will still have a large collection of cars. Before the auction, he owned a total of 150 vehicles, of which 78 were vintage cars.
