The festival organizer Northern trail has gone bankrupt.

Founder Mikael Nilsson announces this on Instagram.

“2022 was a terrible year, when basically no gigs even went around, which left the NT in a vulnerable position.”

Northern trail shuts down operations.

The Swedish festival organizer, which held the Sthlm Americana, Malmö Americana and Oslo Americana festivals, is going bankrupt. This means that all festivals that were supposed to take place this summer are cancelled.

“2022 was a terrible year, when basically no gigs even went around, which left the NT in a vulnerable position.” writes the founder Mikael Nilsson on Instagram.

“It burns”

Mikael Nilsson lists several reasons why you can’t do the festivals anymore – competing bigger organizers and a lack of ticket buyers are two.

“It hurts especially with smaller artists you’ve worked with for a long time and then they finally get here – or all the smaller artists you’ve lost money on several times get a breakthrough and finally have to sell tickets – then it’s someone else who takes over.”

Artists who would have played at the planned festivals in the summer of 2023 were among others Jamie Wyatt and Calexico.
