Another setback for spring – then comes the heat

The warmth of spring is lurking around the corner.

But first, another blizzard is expected to hit the capital.

– There will probably be one or two who will be surprised, says Bengt Olsson at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Up to seven centimeters of heavy snow is expected to fall over the Stockholm area during Friday morning.

On Thursday, SMHI issued a yellow warning for heavy snowfall over the Stockholm area and parts of Uppsala and Sörmland counties, as the snowfall may affect traffic.

– But the question is how much of what is coming will even be settled, says meteorologist Lasse Rydqvist.

He thinks the snow may be the last of spring.

– I hope it is the last snow of the spring, as far as I can see, it seems that way too, he says.

The 5b low pressure causes it

At the same time, the weather forecast is difficult to predict precisely because of the so-called 5b low pressure that is now taking Sweden to bed.

– The 5b low pressure is the meteorologist’s worst enemy. It involves a slightly unusual low-pressure path that makes the weather forecast difficult to determine, says Lasse Rydqvist.

But the forecast for Walborg and the first week of May is all the clearer. Then there will be both sun and heat.

– But then we’ll see what happens. The long-term forecast for May hasn’t looked super fun regarding the heat, says Lasse Rydqvist.

Trafikverket: “Some will be surprised”

Although the snow probably won’t stay for much longer, the weather may affect traffic and lead to limited access, canceled buses, trains and flights.

– There will probably be one or two who will be surprised tomorrow and who will have difficulty staying on the road, said Bengt Olsson at the Swedish Transport Administration yesterday.

It is still unclear whether the snowstorm will be over by the time the morning traffic starts, according to Olsson.

– It is good to closely follow the weather reports, especially locally because there will certainly be a lot of differences just between the south and north of the city.
