A 44-year-old woman in Vallentuna killed her daughter and also tried to kill her son.
The Svea Court of Appeal now confirms the sentence of life imprisonment.
The woman attacked the children, who were both under the age of 15, in her home with a knife. She also tried to strangle them with a rope.
The woman later denied the crime and said she had vague memories of the incident, but a letter written by her was found on the kitchen table in the family’s home, which stated that she planned to kill the children and take her own life.
The district court later concluded that she did not suffer from a serious mental disorder, or any other disorder, at the time of the incident – and that she could therefore be held responsible for her actions.
She was sentenced to life imprisonment and to pay restitution to the son and the children’s father.
“The Court of Appeal, which saw no reason to supplement the forensic psychiatric examination carried out in the district court, has made the same assessments. The Court of Appeal therefore confirms the judgment of the District Court”, writes Svea Court of Appeal in a press release.
