Brazil was one of the big gold favorites ahead of the World Cup in Qatar. But the star-studded team did not get further than the quarter-finals.
Because well there you encountered a patrol in the form of Croatia.
The red and white team, led by superstar Luka Modric, produced a thunderous rumble and defeated the brass in a dramatic match that went to penalties.
The big question is whether the unexpected success in this year’s World Cup means that Modric’s teammates can expect a nice gift?
Luka Modric bought 50 Rolex watches
In 2018, Luka Modric showed that he is, to say the least, gifted.
After being awarded the Ballon d’Or as the world’s best footballer, Luka Modric chose to go big and buy presents for his Real Madrid teammates.
This is revealed by Danish brand expert Simon Bastiansen. He met Modric four years ago and then heard what he calls a “crazy story”.
– He explained that he bought 25 Daytona Rolex watches in red gold for the entire Real Madrid squad. But it wasn’t just for the players. It was for the bus driver, the doctor, the physical therapist, the assistant coach. It was for everyone, Bastiansen tells Danish TV2.
But it didn’t stop at the teammates in Real Madrid.
– But then Modric says again that the story is not quite finished. He tells me that he also did the same with the Croatian national team. So he bought 50 watches in total.
The price tag: SEK 22 million
Bastiansen says that he is no watch expert, but believes that you can spend around SEK 438,000 if you want one such a watch.
Modric will therefore have bought 50.
Which means that the price tag is expected to land at almost SEK 22 million.
The 37-year-old star must have explained his purchase to Bastiansen.
– Without them, I would never have become the world’s best soccer player, he is said to have said according to the Dane.
