Britney Spears, 41, is missing, or at worst dead – and has been replaced by an AI-generated copy.
Thousands of fans on social media believe so, which has led to the hashtag WhereIsBritney on Instagram, Twitter and Tiktok.
It all started with an attention-grabbing video on Tiktok where Britney Spears is seen dancing in front of the camera.
“This is not Britney. Someone used a filter to look like her and I’m about to prove it,” reads the post on the account @catsspills, which has analyzed several videos.

“The Evidence”
As “proof”, one of the world star’s dance videos is played in slow motion. For example, Britney puts her hands over her face and it looks like a face filter is being activated and deactivated. It is further said that, if you pause the video, you can see that the eyebrows and eyes differ from what Britney Spears “actually” looks like.
“This is a person with blue eyes with a Britney filter. It goes very fast and is easy to miss and I can’t believe I discovered it”, writes the person behind the “analysis”.
“This is not Britney. It’s never been Britney,” the person continues.

Theories of the fans
On social media, a surprising number of people seem to agree that it is de facto not Britney Spears.
“I think eventually it will come out that she is no longer alive,” writes one person.
“NO ONE can convince me that that’s Britney. Ever. Look at her previous dance numbers, she doesn’t move like that,” writes another.
One person brings up another argument:
“Has there been a single paparazzi picture? Or a picture of her and a fan? Not a single one?! And as famous as she is? Impossible. There is something strange,” the person writes.
The same Tiktok account further claims that Britney Spears’ tattoos are sometimes visible and sometimes not visible in her various videos.

Another account takes it a step further and suggests that Britney Spears was replaced by a “clone” when she married Sam Asghari in 2022.
The theory is that someone is tasked with playing and pretending to be Britney Spears and that so-called “deepfake technology”, an AI technology, is used to make the person more like the world star. As well as using a so-called “green screen” to fake the surroundings in the video clips.
What the purpose would be, however, does not appear.
