TAMMERFORS/STOCKHOLM. There will be no William Nylander at the WC.

Union captain Sam Hallam made the announcement on Saturday morning.

– The squad we have here and now is the one we aim to join, he says.

Ever since the Toronto Maple Leafs left the Stanley Cup playoffs, there has been speculation about whether William Nylander will come to the World Cup. There have been many hints that the big star was on the way, but the announcement has been delayed – until now.

– The squad we have here and now is what we aim to join. What can change that is any damage. The time factor is a part. We have had some dialogue with various parties this week and have come to the conclusion that today we have made the decision that this is the squad we are going with, says Sam Hallam.

When asked if this means that Nylander will not appear, Hallam answers the following:

– The squad we have in place is the one we go with.

“Full throttle applies”

Sam Hallam also does not want to go into details about whether there have been obstacles in the way with Nylander.

– It is a process with different parts that is difficult for me to go into exactly. We have chosen the line that we do not comment on why, if and how, but different parts come into play. We have come to a decision now and here on site we have started the tournament very well and we feel safe. The group dynamic sits more every day and then to send in that it is us who are here and we are not waiting for anything – it is only full throttle that applies, he says.

Tre Kronor thus continues to have 24 players registered at the moment.

– Right now, but it also gives us the opportunity to add a player. We create some room for maneuver there and should injuries and illnesses appear, we have the opportunity to replace injured players, says Hallam.

William Nylander, one of the golden heroes from the 2017 World Cup, had his best season in terms of points in his career. In 82 regular season games in the NHL, he accounted for 87 points divided between 40 goals and 47 assists.
