The Euro Hockey Tour ends on the first weekend in May, as the last tournament before the 2024 Hockey World Cup. In Czech Brno, Tre Kronor is charging up for the championship. Now Sam Hallam has released Tre Kronor’s squad for the Czech Hockey Games (Betano Hockey Games). Rasmus Dahlin plays the tournament before the WC among several NHL Swedes.

It’s getting closer to the hockey World Cup. While the NHL Swedes for the World Cup are starting to trickle in, the basis for a World Cup squad must also be formed in Tre Kronor. Sam Hallam and his management staff are working hard to produce a gold team, both in the Euro Hockey Tour and in the WC. Sweden leads the Euro Hockey Tour (EHT) on 21 points after three tournaments, this before the home tournament in May: the Czech Republic (17 points). But the big goal is, of course, WC gold, and then good preparation is required.

On May 2-5, the Czech Hockey Games, also recently named the Betano Hockey Games, will be played in the Czech Republic and Brno. Sweden will take on Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Finland in three games to play a rematch for the 2024 Hockey World Cup starting on May 10.

On Friday, national team captain Sam Hallam took the Swedish team to the tournament, where there are some new faces compared to the squad for the internationals against Finland in April. There are, among other things, some WC-ready NHL Swedes but also New Jersey forward Alexander Holtz who is not WC-ready but has the chance to join a WC squad if he impresses the national team management.

– Now we are taking it even further with this squad, where we are bringing in reinforcements from the NHL and Switzerland. My most important task will be to, together with the other coaches, set our game system for all the new faces. We will use the time in the best way to prepare for the World Cup opener against the USA on May 10, says Sam Hallam in a press release.

Sweden is coming off three losses and a win against Finland in training matches, but now the preparations for the World Cup begin in earnest with a sharpened squad.

– We come from two valuable weeks with Finnkampen. The close matches interspersed with training laid a good foundation for the WC. Game-wise, it is of course frustrating that we only score one goal in the last three games, but it was a useful experience for us to go through, says Sam Hallam.

Superstar Rasmus Dahlin will play in the Euro Hockey Tour and Czech Hockey Games as he is among nine Swedish defenders in the squad. Also Joel Eriksson Ek is included like all ready NHL players except Erik Karlsson and Marcus Johansson. There is also a trio of goalkeepers from the NHL, where you get to prove yourself to the national team management before the World Cup and hone your form in pursuit of playing time in the championship.
