Hi, I’ve run into a problem with MacOS that I can’t find any solutions for googling.

When you enable forced use of smart card (Yubikey in our case) for login in MacOS, Spotlight stops working to the point that it only shows search results on Apps. It is no longer possible to search for e.g. names of files, specific settings or anything other than an App installed on the computer.
Rebuilding Index doesn’t help.

If I disable the requirement to use smart cards on the computer, re-index the entire computer and then restart it, everything works as it should. If I then put the requirement back on, it stops working.

To activate the “log in with smart card” requirement, I do it through the terminal with: “sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.smartcard enforceSmartCard -bool true”

Is a bit of a pain as we have a lot of files we search for all the time in the computers, especially in OneDrive. Takes a little longer to click into the right folder instead of just running cmd+space, typing the name and pressing enter.

My theory is that the smart card somehow interferes with Spotlight’s rights to read/index specific parts of the computer, for some reason it can find Apps as I said, nothing else.

If there is anyone who could come up with ideas or tips, it would be greatly appreciated, otherwise we will have to live without Spotlight for the rest of our lives.
