The Norwegian comedian Shabana Rehman is dead after a battle with cancer.
Her brother announced this in a Facebook post.
“She has fought hard and never given up,” he writes.
In January of this year, the Norwegian comedian and writer was affected Shabana Rehman of pancreatic cancer. According to herself, she was directly informed by the doctors that the situation was serious when they discovered the disease.
Now Shabana Rehman’s brother confirms that she has died, aged 46, writes VG.
“It is with bottomless sadness that I have to announce that our much loved sister, daughter, aunt, friend, middle punk, joy spreader and pride has left us this morning”.
Furthermore, he writes about his sister’s stubborn fight against the disease.
“She has fought hard and never given up hope. She wanted to live for her family, all her love and for this country that she loved so immensely”.
Best friend: “Absolutely terrible”
Shabana Rehman is also mourned by fellow comedian and childhood friend Zahid Ali. The last time they were seen was just a few days ago.
– She could hardly speak and I realized that she was very bad, he says to VG.
For the past few days, Zahid Ali has been walking around with a lump in his stomach waiting for the news. He says that Shabana Rehman’s illness has taken a toll on him.
– It is absolutely terrible. She was my best friend and one of the people I knew the longest.
Fought for women’s rights
Shabana Rehman came to Norway as a one-year-old after her family fled Pakistan. In Norway, from the early 2000s, she has been a strong voice for women’s freedom and rights.
