190 vocationally skilled young people compete in the Vocational Championship

Vocational Championship is a Swedish championship in vocational skills for young people. During three days, competitions are arranged to crown new champions. Painters, woodworkers, bricklayers, tilers, plumbing fitters, shop assistants, goldsmiths, business developers, aviation technicians, welders, hairdressers, cooks, vehicle painters, landscapers are just a few examples of the competition branches that can give a place in the Swedish Professional National Team.

During the days, a total of 190 professionally qualified young people gather in Karlstad to settle the medals. In total, people compete in 32 disciplines and the organizers expect to be able to beat previous audience records.

– The purpose of the Vocational Championship is to increase awareness of the different career paths within the vocational training area and to raise the status, interest and attractiveness of professions and vocational training, says Pontus Slättman, CEO of WorldSkills Sweden, in a press release.

Mia Bernhardsen, head of competence supply, who is on site in Karlstad, emphasizes that the demand for practical professional skills and experience is great throughout the business world. The recruitment survey shows that half of the companies demand people with upper secondary vocational education.

– The competition is a good way to increase the status of vocational training. There are more professions than the theoretical ones that are of great importance to companies’ supply of skills, she says.

– It’s great fun to see the young people’s professional skills here on site. It gives me hope. Many of the contestants already have a job today, and those who are still in training will get it shortly. Their skills are needed.

The competition runs from 23-25 ​​April.
