Actress Anne Hathaway, 41, is an Oscar, Emmy, Golden globe and Bafta winner. She thinks the film industry has changed a lot since she started in it.

– Back then it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test if they had personal chemistry, which is actually the worst way to do it. And that happened to me, says Hathaway.

Without saying which film it is about, she talks about what happened during an audition in the early 2000s.

– I was told “ten guys are coming in today and you’ve got the part, aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?” And I wondered if there was something wrong with me because I wasn’t excited at all, I thought it was disgusting, says Hathaway.

But she did not object because she was “so young”.

– I was terribly aware of how easy it is to lose everything by being labeled as “difficult”. So I just pretended to be excited and got through it,” Hathaway said.

“We know better than that now”

She says that “nowadays we know better than that”.

– No one was deliberately horrible to me or tried to hurt me. It was just a completely different time, says Hathaway.

She compares it to the audition for her new film “The idea of you”. The male actors were asked to pick a song they thought would get Hathaway’s character to dance with them.

29-year-old Nicholas Galitzine chose a song with the band Alabama Shakes.

– When I heard the singer’s voice, I started to smile. And when he saw me smile, he relaxed and we just started dancing. It wasn’t about excelling or getting a role, we were just dancing with each other and director Michael Showalter lit up when he saw it, says Hathaway.

Galitzine got the role.
