Student Freddie Hadley, 12, wrote an open letter on X to Prince William and Princess Kate last year. The boy invited the princesses to his school, St Michael’s Church of England High School, so they could see the mental health initiatives there.

To his delight, Freddie received an answer from the prince.

“Good afternoon, Freddie. I regret that Caroline and I cannot be with you and the other students at St Michael’s today. Tackling the challenges and stigma around mental health is so important so keep up your important work”William wrote.

But on Thursday, William made a surprise visit when he visited Freddie at the school in the town of Rowley Regis, England.

– Many people write us letters, but Freddie’s was so well written that I promised I would come, William told the school staff.

When William greeted Freddie at school he said:

– So this is the young guy who started it all. Very nice to meet you and thank you for your letter.

– Be so good, replied Freddie.

When William asked if Freddie thought he would get an answer, the boy replied:

– Yes I did.

William then praised Freddie for his confidence.

However, the visit was also a bit sad for the prince because he did not bring his wife Kate with him. She is undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer.

– I regret that Catherine could not be here today as well. She would have loved it, William told school staff.
