According to the Energy Agency’s figures from 2024, there are currently 34,529 public charging points in Sweden. Of these, over 10,000 are provided by Virta. The Finnish charging platform company established its first Swedish charging station in 2017 and has since shown steady growth.

The growth rate of rechargeable vehicles has increased consistently over the past few years and the need for charging stations along with it. By operating in Virta’s charging platform, companies can easily establish their own charging points, where Virta stands for infrastructure, maintenance of charging stations, smart energy management, electric car driver services, payment solutions and much more.

– As more and more rechargeable vehicles in traffic, both private passenger cars and heavy electrified transport vehicles, a well-functioning charging infrastructure becomes increasingly important. With our 10,000 public charging points, we are a good way on our way, and every charging point we get in place is one step closer to reaching our ambitious climate goals, says Martin Lundgren, Virta’s head of Scandinavia.

Virta has grown steadily and organically in Sweden since 2017 and continues to show positive results. Today, Virta’s charging platform has the majority of large players attached to it including OKQ8 and the Volkswagen Group’s dealer network.

We want to create a charging experience that is simple and smooth at all stages. That we have a high growth rate and that we reach this milestone is proof that we are doing the right thing, concludes Martin Lundgren.

Three prerequisites for a sustainable and efficient charging infrastructure according to Virta:

  • Clear user focus – there must be smooth access to roaming and a uniform and clear pricing system. Everything gathered in one and the same place.
  • Smart energy services – services that reduce the dependence and need for an expanded electricity grid and production that promotes energy saving, such as demand flexibility (also known as demand response), peak shaving and V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) on a larger scale.
  • Predictable flows – being able to predict tomorrow’s energy flows and traffic user patterns without being dependent on yesterday’s static requirements is a prerequisite for being able to effectively plan needs and resources.
