The board of Region Stockholm has developed a restructuring plan for how the care choices in the county are to be reorganized. 13 out of 40 care choices are changed. A large part of the publicly funded care is currently managed by private care companies. The choice of care means that patients themselves have the right to choose which care provider they want to turn to, both private and public.

Specialized gynecology is next. In the new care choice, the requirement for physician staffing is raised, advanced gynecological surgery is moved to the emergency hospitals and doctors within the care choice must staff the on-calls at the hospitals’ gynecological and maternity clinics.

– We are putting measures in place to improve patient safety, measures for increased accessibility and measures to ensure that our tax funds do not go to welfare crime, says Talla Alkurdi (S), health care regional council.

Increased availability

Accessibility to gynecology is to be increased by having publicly run gynecology clinics open outside customs.

– This is to overcome the injustice that has existed for so many years, that gynecological clinic after gynecological clinic has been closed around the county to concentrate in Stockholm’s inner city.

KD: “Similar to a closure plan”

The opposition believes that the restructuring of gynecology can lead to longer queues and that it will be more difficult for women to get help.

– Unfortunately, it is the case that instead of developing this care, it is reduced. We think that this restructuring plan is more and more similar to a closure plan, says opposition regional councilor Désirée Pethrus (KD).

She is also critical of the fact that the compensation that the caregivers receive is not increased.

– The demands that are now being made of the board are that they should do more, without receiving a higher compensation. It is not reasonable.
