There are many indications that the wolf that was shot earlier today in Skåne is the immigrant wolf that caused major problems for livestock owners in southern Sweden. “We hope so, but don’t know for sure yet,” says Tom Espgård at the county board.

It took about four hours from the time a sheep owner on a farm in Svalöv municipality saw a wolf disappear with a lamb until the wolf had been killed.

Tracked with dog

Tom Espgård, agricultural consultant and wildlife officer at the county board in Skåne, says:

– We started tracking with dogs at nine o’clock. Then there was a break and we deployed pass shooters. At twelve o’clock the wolf was shot. It is a male and I believe it was fully grown, but it can be a little hard to tell at this time of year.

Can we assume that it is the right wolf – the aforementioned Settenvargen?

– We hope it’s the right wolf, but don’t know for sure yet.
