The defense committee, which consists of representatives of the eight parties in the Riksdag as well as experts and experts, agrees that higher ambitions are required and that Swedish rearmament needs to be accelerated.
Among other things, the investment will go towards increased air defense, more conscripts and another brigade. The authority wants Sweden to have three army brigades by 2030 instead of the two we have today. The number of conscripts must be increased from today’s 8,000 to 10,000 in 2030 and 12,000 in 2032, and a further increase to 14,000 in 2035 must be considered. Officer training must also be expanded.
A special investment must also be made on air defense. The war in Ukraine has focused on the importance of a functioning air defense against, among other things, robots and drones.
