Sam Kerr’s older brother, Daniel Kerr, has been sentenced to prison.

This after he set fire to his and the Chelsea star’s family home.

– Senseless and chaotic, the prosecutor said of the act according to the Daily Mail.

It was in February 2021 that Daniel Kerr, the former AFL star and older brother of Chelsea player Sam Kerr, set fire to his family home in Kardinya, Australia.

After the 40-year-old set fire to the house, he drove away while shouting and waving his hand out of the driver’s window.

No one was injured, but the fire caused damage to the property to a value of almost 2.7 million Swedish kronor.

Gets a reduced sentence

The former Australian footballer was arrested by police just an hour after the incident and said at the time that he had no recollection of the incident.

The house was owned by Daniel and Sam Kerr’s parents and Daniel also lived in the house at the time of the fire.

During the time Kerr was in custody for the crime, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, according to the Daily Mail.

The court took the 40-year-old’s mental illness into account and imposed a reduced sentence of two years.

“Not normal”

Daniel Kerr played 220 games for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL) between 2001 and 2013.

After his retirement, he had major alcohol and drug problems, culminating in a five-day jail sentence after violating a restraining order.

Sam Kerr has had a rocky relationship with his brother.

In an interview with Fox Sports in 2019, the Chelsea star said that she refused to speak to her brother for two years.

– He always says, ‘What got me back on the road was everyone talking to me but you,’ she said and continued:

– I had to see mother and father being stressed about their 30-year-old son, which is not normal and it affected me.

Sam Kerr has not commented on the fire or his brother’s prison sentence.
