Aaron Sorkin wrote the script for the film “The social network” from 2010, which depicted the creation of Facebook. Now he is working on a sequel that will explore Facebook’s role in the storming of the Capitol in January 2021.
– I blame Facebook for January 6, he says in a live recording of the podcast “The town”, and adds that the technology giant has played a large role in the sharp political polarization of the United States.
Sorkin accuses Mark Zuckerbergco-founder and CEO of Facebook’s parent company Meta, for prioritizing growth over privacy, despite his already enormous personal fortune.
– Among other things, Facebook has tuned its algorithm to promote the most divisive material because that is what increases engagement, he says.
When asked exactly how Facebook was responsible for the events of January 6, 2021, Sorkin replies that listeners “will have to buy a movie ticket.”
