106 Ukrainian soldiers captured by Russian forces in the hotly contested town of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine have been released after a prisoner exchange, according to the Ukrainian president.
– They were reported as missing. But we found them. We took them home. Eight officers, 98 soldiers and sergeants, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his evening speech on Thursday.
How many prisoners of war were returned to Russia in the exchange is unclear.
– Of course, I am also grateful to each of our soldiers who ensured that we have an appropriate exchange fund, Zelenskyy said and continued:
– The more Russian prisoners of war we take, the more of our people we get home.
