Earlier this week, Scottish pensioners Moira Gallacher and Charmian Widdowson were on holiday in Romania.
They traveled by car through an area in the Carpathians where there are thousands of brown bears. There they saw a female bear with a cub.
– The bear walked up to the window on my friend’s side. It was no problem, it let us take a picture and went on its way, says Moira.
But the friends were not satisfied with the picture, so they went back.
– Then the bear was on my side, says Moira.
Then the pensioners made a decision they would regret – they cranked down the window to get a good picture.
– I thought the bear wanted to be friendly, says Charmian.
But that was not the case. When Moira tried to take a selfie with the bear, it bit her and tried to get into the car.
“Thought my friend would be lunch”
The pensioners got away, but Moira ended up in the emergency room. However, she escaped with minor injuries.
– My arm hurts, says Moira.
She believes her arm was saved by wearing a thick jacket.
– I am a lucky woman, says Moira.
Friend Charmian views the incident with dry humor:
– The bears were very nice – or rather not so nice. The mother bear was hungry and thought my friend would be lunch.
