Anniversary celebration · On June 2-5, the city of Gothenburg is celebrated with a jubilee festival in Frihamnen and on June 4 with a royal parade through the city. Trafik Göteborg gives advice on how to get around.

Royal splendor and folk festivities are to be expected on June 2-5 when Gothenburg’s Jubilee Festival takes over Frihamnen. On June 4, the royal couple will visit, which will be celebrated with a royal parade through the city. The celebration in general is part of our city Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary. Everyone is welcome and entry is free.

Trafik Göteborg advises on the best way to get around during the anniversary celebration, as it is a public festival where it is difficult to get to by car but easy to take public transport, walk or cycle – or take the free ferry. Here’s how to get there:

Free electric ferry

To the festival, you can take the free electric ferry 287 from Stenpiren and get off in the middle of the festival area. The ferry runs during all festival opening hours and no ticket is needed.

Tram and bus

Lines 5, 6, 10 and 13 go to the tram stop Frihamnen. Please note that there are only stairs to and from the Frihamnen tram stop.

Several bus lines stop at the Frihamnsporten bus stop. During Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4, only buses 16, 31 and 58 operate Frihamnsporten.

Walk

From town, you can walk across the Hisingsbron and either take the stairs or the elevator that leads down to the festival area. If it is full at the stairwell, continue straight ahead and use the entrance located at the height at the end of the bridge. From Hisingen you can get to the festival from several directions.

Bicycle and electric scooter

At the festival area, there are bike racks and a Styr och Ställ station called Frihamnen. There is also parking for electric scooters.

Car

There are no parking spaces adjacent to the festival. If you are driving, you must look for a free parking space outside the festival area. Therefore, everyone who can is encouraged to get to the festival via the options above.

Make your way during the royal parade

The royal couple will come to Gothenburg on June 4 to celebrate Gothenburg’s birthday and the King’s 50 years on the throne. This is celebrated with a royal procession with horse and carriage through central Gothenburg, which affects traffic between 11.00 and 13.00. Public transport has changed routes between 10.00 and 13.00 – search for your journey in the Västtrafik To Go app.

The royal cortege goes from Götaplatsen to Gustav Adolfs Torg and closes all traffic along the parade route.

Traffic is closed as follows:

At 10.00-12.00, Götaplatsen is closed to traffic.
At 11.00-12.00 Engelbrektsgatan and Parkgatan are closed to traffic.
At At 12:00 and 13:00 the section Parkgatan and Gustav Adolfs torg is closed to traffic.
