Yasuragi Hasseludden, a Japanese-style hotel and conference facility outside Stockholm, is being investigated for legionella.

CEO Anna Westergren does not allow herself to be interviewed, but writes in a text message:

“Right now, Environment & Health is investigating our staff.”

She continues:

“Staff have shown symptoms and as a result we are one of several places being investigated by environment and health in the municipalities concerned.”

“We always work proactively”

According to her, Yasuragi Hasseludden takes samples for legionella every month. The latest test, from the beginning of January, did not detect any legionella, she states.

Anna Westergren does not want to answer how many how many of the staff have symptoms, when the symptoms appeared or if there are any confirmed cases of illness.

“We always work proactively against legionella, with, among other things, regular sampling and water purification”, she writes.

Legionella

Legionella, or Legionnaires’ disease, is a severe pneumonia. It is transmitted by inhaling small droplets of water contaminated with legionella bacteria.

The bacteria multiply in stagnant water and can contaminate water pipes, air conditioning systems, showers and hot tubs.

Common symptoms are high fever, headache, muscle aches and difficulty breathing.

Legionella is treated with antibiotics and sometimes hospitalization is needed.
