Loreen is the favorite to win Eurovision with the entry “Tattoo”. But only since the Melodifestival part competition in Malmö have plagiarism accusations been directed at the song.

It started with pointing out similarities between “Tattoo” and Abbas’ “The winner takes it all”.

– I take that as a compliment! Loreen says happily about the comparison with the iconic Abba song.

It continued before the Melodifestivalen final in March, but with a new song, when the major Spanish daily ABC drew attention to the similarity to Pont Aeris’ “Flying free” from 1999. They wrote:

“The line between plagiarism and homage is very subtle in this song.”

Loreen: “I don’t have time”

And precisely accusations from Spain have been involved in the Eurovision preparations. This week, the Spanish comedian and TV profile Eva Soriano released a song – where she attacks the Swedish hope of winning.

– I hate you Loreen, I hate you Loreen. Your song is a plagiarism on “Flying free”, she sings.

The protagonist himself takes all these claims in stride.

– I haven’t put much energy into it, to be completely honest. I don’t have time, I don’t have space in my head for anything other than making sure this number is as fat as possible, she says and continues:

– I represent Sweden, so I have to go into this with seriousness, commitment and presence. So there is no time to waste on it. The most important thing for me is that people resonate with the song, do what you want with it, be creative with it. Whatever makes you happy, do it.

Finnish Kärijää with “Cha cha cha” is, alongside Loreen, one of the early favorites for the Eurovision Song Contest.

And like Loreen’s “Tattoo”, accusations of plagiarism have been directed at “Cha cha cha”, which several Eurovision blogs have noticed.
